Community Graveyard Survey at Glendalough

Participants Needed 24 to 28 August. The Glendalough Heritage Forum will be coordinating a survey of Glendalough Graveyard during Heritage Week which will be carried out with members of the community. Support and training for those wishing to take part will be provided by the Historic Graves project supported by grants from The Heritage Council and Wicklow County Council. It will run in parallel with archaeological excavations undertaken as part of the annual UCD Archaeological Field School and students will also assist on the survey. The survey will transcribe, photograph and record the locations of grave markers in the old graveyard. The results will be made available through the Historic Graves website as well as being available for the local community and other researchers (http://historicgraves.com). If you are interested in being part of the survey for some or all of the days please let us know. No experience is required and you need only bring sensible outdoor clothing and footwear. Please let us know of your interest and availability at:  glendaloughheritageforum@gmail.com.

Glendalough Festival 2015

Glendalough Arts Network is well advanced with preparations for their Glendalough Festival 2015. This will be held on Sat Aug 29th 2015 on the green at back of the Glendalough Hotel – same as last year. As well as an even bigger selection of Arts and Crafts stalls we hope once again to have our huge Community Drum, Music with Traditional Arts Collective and guests both local and visiting, also the ever popular Healing and Wellbeing Center with Massage, Yoga, Reiki and Meditation. There will also be a short Guided Walk in the Monastic City and hopefully a talk on recent Archeology work in the area. A few new faces are expected with new displays of unusual or scary art ! The children’s area will bring back the dream-catcher, face-painting and children’s craft-making which is always a big hit. Food and refreshments available to help you make a day of it, and a picnic of it!   We will be writing with more details as we get them – and we will be looking for help and volunteers with tents and organising in the week before and on the day of Glendalough Festival 2015.   Look forward to getting you to help and seeing you there on the day. Glendalough Arts Network.
