The Lawrence Collection dates from 1865 when William Lawrence opened a photographic studio in his mother’s fancy goods store in Sackville Street, now O’Connell Street, opposite the GPO. His chief photographer, Robert French is credited with taking 30,000 of the 40,000 negatives of almost every town and village in Ireland between 1865 and 1916.
