Recent Excavations at Glendalough            

A public lecture by the UCD School of Archaeology entitled “Recent Archaeological Excavations at Glendalough” will take place in the Brockagh Resource Centre from 7pm to 8.30 pm on 10th February. Everyone is very welcome to attend this free talk. There will be a €2 charge for tea, coffee and biscuits.

Glendalough – An Age Old Attraction  

Laragh Glendalough Active Retirement will present a lecture by Joan Kavanagh in the Brockagh Resource Centre, on Tuesday 14th of February at 11am, followed by tea/coffee. This is a free talk and all are welcome. Using images from the photographic exhibition currently on display in the Centre. The exhibition and talk is based on a selection from the Lawrence and Valentine Collections held by the National Library of Ireland Photographic Archives.

Doodle4Google Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa Finalists 

Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa and Laragh village are buzzing with excitement as two students are finalists in this year’s Doodle4Google art competition. This is a huge achievement for the children and for the school, the competition attracts thousands of entries from all over the country, and for a small rural school to have two finalists is a pretty big deal! This year’s theme is ‘If I could create anything it would be…’Ciara Finn age 6 from senior infants did a beautiful colourful picture entitled ‘My Animal Friends’. Taran Scott age 8 from 2nd class has a clever design turning the Google logo into both a dog and dog grooming machine! Please vote Ciara and Taran to win at Vote at doodles.google.ie/d4g/. Voting from 7th Feb until 21st Feb. The winners will be announced at a big prize giving event in Google headquarters in April. Best of luck Ciara and Taran!

 

Laragh Glendalough Post Office

The consultation process for Glendalough Post Office has reopened and will remain open until the 15th February, 2017. This is as a result of the great public support from all sectors of the Laragh, Glendalough community in keeping our Post Office open. We must now avail of this opportunity to ensure that what we have done so far leaves An Post in no doubt as to why it is essential in our area. Please send a letter to Mr Alan McLoughlin, Regional Operational Manager, Block 38, GPO, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1. DO1F5p2. State the reasons why Glendalough Post Office must remain open and the problems that closure would cause for you. If you require any assistance a member of the Community will be in the Post Office from Wed, 1st February until Tuesday 14th, February (week days only) 10am to 1pm. Letters must be stamped with a 72 cent stamp. Next meeting is on Monday 6th of February. The next meeting is on Monday 6th February at 8pm in the Brockagh Centre.

 

Basket-Making and Willow-Weaving Traditional Basket-making Workshop

The full day traditional basket-making workshop will teach you basic basketry techniques. It will be a relaxed learning environment and you will bring home your own completed handmade small round willow basket (a skib). The workshops will take place in the Brockagh Resource Centre (9 am to 5 pm). Available dates are, 25th March and 22nd April. Places are limited to five participants per workshop, so be sure to book as soon as possible. Walking group in the Brockagh                                                                   

On Monday mornings weekly at 10am join the walking group with Get Ireland Walking at the Brockagh Resource Centre for a walk around Glendalough area for approximately one hour. Marie Noonan practices Pilates with her students every Monday morning at 10.30, she welcomes beginners and advanced participants. Marie is a qualified Pilate’s teacher and has been teaching for the last 17 years and works full time as a movement therapist for rehabilitation, health and longevity. Taekwon-Do Special Offer

Taekwon-Do classes are held in the Brockagh Centre every Tuesday evening from 6 to 8.45 pm. A range of classes cater for children (aged 4 upwards), teenagers and adults. In addition to a free first Taekwon-Do session, when registering for classes each beginner will be given a free uniform worth up to €50! Free Digital Skills Computer Course

A free 5-week digital skills computer course is commencing shortly. This course aims to help citizens use the internet with confidence and provide the motivation and skills to reap the benefits of participating in today’s digital world. Topics covered include digital photography, online banking, online government services, email, shopping online and much more. Happy Days Parent and Toddler Group                           

Happy Days welcome toddlers and parents from 10.30 to 12 at the Brockagh Centre. It is a  social morning with your children for some play, chat and of course light refreshments or if your new to the community it is a great way to get to know other parents.
