Bealtaine Festival –A month of Celebration of Arts for Older People

More to come this month for the festival: May  21st , Afternoon Tea Dance with music by The Wicklow Man. Admission €5. Refreshments are provided. ( Groups must be booked into the Tea Dance by calling 0404 45600 or emailing brockaghresourcecentre@gmail.com.) May 29th, Laurence High School Band from Kanvas, USA. The concert starts at 12pm. All are welcome to attend this free event and any other part of the Bealtaine Festivities in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh.

 

Brockagh Art Group Summer Exhibition

An exhibition of paintings by members of Brockagh Art Group will open next Friday in Glendalough Green Cafe, Laragh, May 19th to 30th,marking the end of year for students of Almha Roche’s Wednesday morning art class in the Brockagh Centre. Almha is an artist from Laragh who teaches adult and children’s classes locally. Paintings in Oil, Acrylic and Watercolour will be on show in a variety of styles. Artists include José O’ Connor, Margaret Conroy, Nancy Falkow, Jackie Stuart, Enda Fitzpatrick, Deborah Von Metzradt, Lisa Mahony and Almha Roche. 

 Sale of Work                                                                                                                           Parishes of Rathdrum and Derralossary with Glenealy Sale of Work on Sat 20th of May from 1-3.30pm in the RDA Hall Rathdrum. Great stalls full of cakes, plants, books, toys, bric and brac, and a Grand Raffle at 3pm. Please come along and give us your support.

 

Elevation School of Performing Arts                                                                                                  Presents its 10 Year Anniversary show, Something Old, Something New on Saturday June 3rd at 6pm in Brockagh Resource Centre. This is a celebration of everything dance and drama from all of our students across all the campuses. We invite everyone young and young at heart to come along, students and supporters past and present to come along and join in the celebrations with us.

Co.Wicklow Older Peoples Network AGM                                                                                          The Wicklow Age Friendly Strategy 2017 -2022 is being launched at the AGM of the Co. Wicklow Older Person’s Council on May 26th  by Minister Simon Harris. The AGM is in the Brockagh Resource Centre, 10am to 3.45. A talk from Brendan Martin, County Librarian and John Gill, Crime Prevention Officer, Wicklow. All this is followed by a tea dance, music by Liam Garret. Active Retirement Outings

Laragh Glendalough Community Garden 

The garden is now ready for planting and we welcome the community into the garden. Plots are available for those wishing to grow their own vegetables. The polytunnel can be used for growing tomatoes etc. and if you have a small garden but want to grow potatoes or larger vegetables such as marrow we have the space. Call Finian on 086 247 6822.

Blessing of the graves will take place in Brockagh Graveyard on Saturday May 20th after 7pm mass.

Pilates at the Brockagh                                      

Marie Noonan is a qualified Pilate’s teacher and has been teaching for the last 17 years and works full time as a movement therapist for rehabilitation, health and longevity.The duration of the class is seven weeks and will start at 9.15am to 10.15am and another class at and 10.15 to 11.15am. We Love Art                                                                                                                                       

Classes on Monday afternoons are for Primary school children. They are taught by artist and qualified art teacher Almha Roche. Classes are small, and divided by age group. In the classes we work with lots of different art and craft forms. Adult Art                                                                                                                                             This painting class will help you to find your own artistic style in your preferred medium. It is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced painters. Take up a new hobby or develop your skills and techniques in a friendly and informal group. Drama School                                                                                                                           Drama classes are a fantastic way of developing confidence and encouraging creativity and imagination. Drama modules will incorporate improvisation, mime, script work, vocal training and acting skills. Students will also learn from the Irish Board of Speech and Drama syllabus and be afforded opportunities to take graded examinations under a fully qualified teacher.
