Laragh Glendalough Notes Week beg 21st Aug

 New Exhibition- Glendalough: Art and Atmosphere

The Glendalough: Art and Atmosphere free exhibition will be held in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh from the 19th – 27th of August, 9.30 to 5pm. This is a display of 18th and 19th century paintings and drawings of the Glendalough Valley, capturing rarely seen aspects of the Valley’s heritage. This exhibition is a collaborative venture with a number of agencies on the Glendalough Heritage Forum, especially the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council and the Heritage Council.

 

Haunted Halloween Kids Day

Calling all little ghouls and spooks! Join us for our Horrifying Haunted Halloween House on Saturday October 28th. Jam-packed with activities including Ghouling Games, Frightful Feasts, Alarming Art, Petrifying Prizes, Terrifying Treasure Hunt and a Death-Defying Disco, this Haunted House is sure to be the creepiest one around! New Dates for Traditional Basket-making Workshop

This full day, traditional basket-making workshop will teach you basic basketry techniques. Taught in a relaxed learning environment, you will bring home your own completed small round willow basket (a skib). The workshops will take place in the Brockagh Centre from 9-5 pm 23rd and 17th of Sept, 7th and 21st of Oct, 2017. Classes are small with 5 participants. Garden workshop   also available on request. We Love Art                                                                                                                          

Classes will be back on Mon 18th Sept for Primary school children. They are taught by artist and qualified art teacher Almha Roche. Classes are small, and divided by age group. In the classes we work with lots of different art and craft forms. Adult Art                                                                                                                                            

Painting classes are back Wed 20th of Sept, and will help you to find your own artistic style in your preferred medium. It is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced painters. Take up a new hobby or develop your skills and techniques in a friendly and informal group. Drama School                                                                                                                         

Classes are back on Wed 13th of Sept. Drama classes are a fantastic way of developing confidence and encouraging creativity and imagination. Drama modules will incorporate improvisation, mime, script work, vocal training and acting skills. Students will also learn from the Irish Board of Speech and Drama syllabus and be afforded opportunities to take graded examinations under a fully qualified teacher. Elevation Dance School

Kate has introduced some new dance classes to her calendar this term, baby ballet, pre pri ballet, senior contemporary. Kate is also hoping to do competition teams with advanced dancers on a Monday evening at 5pm. Pilates at the Brockagh 

Marie Noonan class will be back Mon 18th, Sept. Marie is a qualified Pilate’s teacher and has been teaching for the last 17 years and works full time as a movement therapist for rehabilitation, health and longevity. Active Retirement Group

Laragh Glendalough Active Retirement Group are back after their summer break Tuesday 12th September at 11am. They thoroughly enjoyed their 2 night break away in Clayton Whites Hotel Wexford 20th to the 22nd June. They visited Rathwood, Dubrody Famine Ship, Waterford Suir Valley Railway tour, Johnstown Castle and danced the night away in the Clayton Whites hotel.

Their Sunday tea dances were a great success last season and the next tea dance will take place on Sunday 19th November 3 to 6pm, all groups must book in advance with the centre. New members are always welcome, come along on a Tuesday morning to the Brockagh Centre from 11am – 12.15pm.

 

Dog Show at the Brockagh 2017

The dog show was a great success on the 6 th Aug considering the bad weather we had, we raised €421 for Wicklow Animal Welfare. Congratulations to Abby Doyle with Brutus winning Large Dog, Tracy Murphy with PiP Small Dog, Cormac O’Sullivan with CÚ Cutest Puppy and Dog you would love to take home, Alex Short with Gus Obedience, Brandon McCoy Phelan with Wowee dog led by child. Thank you to all who gave prizes for the raffle Willie McCoy, Glendalough Green, Lyhnams, Wicklow Heather, Liam Farrington, Lisa Delahaye,Bernie Vets Roundwood, Leanne Byrne, Kathleen Byrne, Valerie McCoy, Marie McCoy, Fiona Gammell, Meghan Ryder, Annemarie O’Neill, Bernie Cooney. Thank you to Finbar and Sandra for judging the show they did a great job and everyone that took part on the day.
