Award Night -Wicklow Uplands Council Photo Competition 2018

Wicklow Uplands Council will be awarding the winnersof the 2018 Photo Competition in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Tuesday 21st of August at 7pm. We would like to thank everyone who entered the competition and invite the public to view your inspired photography in the Centre from 9-5pm Monday to Friday up until Friday the 31th of August.

 Co.Wicklow PPN Training Fair

The Training Fair is a free day out for community groups on the 8th of September, 2018 from 9.30 to 4pm in the Brockagh Resource Centre Laragh. Catering, with support from Wicklow Community Cafes. There will be lots of opportunities for networking and sharing experiences, learning from one another. Workshop places are limited so booking is essential. Contact Helen or Grainne on 087 189 5145. Monastic Mappery

Glendalough Heritage Forum presents ‘Monastic Mappery’ in the Brockagh Resource Centre (18th to 26th August, 9 am to 5 pm). This exhibition will look at the history of Glendalough in maps from the 16th century to the present.

Glendalough Graveyard Tour

Tour the historic graveyard at Glendalough, led by members of the community group who have surveyed and recorded the graveyard. Explore the fascinating headstones and stories behind the grave markers. Meet at the base of the round tower (20th to 24th August, 3 to 4 pm).

Maintenance Person/Car Park Attendant

The Brockagh Resource Centre wishes to recruit a part-time maintenance person/car park attendant. Applicants must be eligible for the Community Services Programme (eligibility is confined to those in receipt of certain DEASP payments, Contact the manager, Pauline Fahy, on 0404- 45600 for further information or email brockaghresourcecentre@gmail.com.

Morning Yoga with Louise

Louise’s yoga class will be held every Thursday from 10 to 11.15 am. This is a gently-paced class where students learn how to align, open and strengthen the body gradually while stabilizing the platforms of the feet and ankles, hips and pelvis and shoulder girdle. The class begins with general and targeted warm-up sequences followed by postures (Asanas) and Vinyasa (breath-connected) sequences before final relaxation in Savasana. Chair Yoga                                                                                                                                  

Our very popular Chair Yoga class will take place on Thursdays from 11.30 am to 12.45 pm. Chair Yoga is suitable for almost everyone and helps students find balance and calm in everyday life. The class takes students through centering and breath-work, followed by postures that let the joints move through their range of movement whilst seated or through use of the chair whilst standing. AA Meetings                                                                                                                            

Closed AA Meetings are held in the Brockagh Resource Centre at 8.30 p.m. every Monday night all year round.

A Celebration of Harps

The Bray Harp Ensemble in association with Bre Comhaltas Ceoltoiri will present new work composed by Rachel Duffy and the musicians of the ensemble at the Brockagh Resource Centre on August 24th. Free tickets, donations welcome, booking essential, go to www.eventbrite.com to book. The composition will celebrate the past and present harpists of Ireland and especially the 1st Synod of Harpists from Ireland, England and Wales, who gathered in the 11th century in Glendalough. There will also be special guest performers. Refreshments and reception held at 7:30pm before the concert at 8pm. This event is funded by the Creative Ireland Programme.

Tours of Glendalough Excavations

Join a guided tour of the UCD School of Archaeology excavations at Glendalough (20th to 24th August, 2 to 3 pm). Examine the trenches and artefacts and find out how archaeologists discover the past. Meet at the round tower.

The Big Dig

In this hands-on activity children can try out a simulated archaeological excavation. The Big Dig takes place in hourly slots and must be booked in advance. The location is in the field next to the Round Tower and access will be through the monastery. See Eventbrite.ie for bookings.

 Art of Market Cross at Glendalough

Come along to Glendalough Visitor Centre on 25th August (11 am to 2.30 pm) and join a large scale painting workshop for all ages examining the beautiful stone panels of the Market Cross that once stood in Glendalough. Participants will have the chance to explore 3D models of the cross and other Glendalough monuments.

Open Day at Glendalough Excavations

August 25th (12 noon to 4 pm) is Open Day at the UCD School of Archaeology excavations at Glendalough, with tours, displays and interactive activities including workshops, demonstrations of laser scanning and other forms of recording. The site is adjacent to the main monastic complex.
