Laragh Glendalough Notes Week beg 1st April 2019

Temple na Skellig

Glendalough Heritage Forum (GHF) invites you to a public lecture, Temple na Skellig: new understandings of Francoise Henry’s 1950s’ excavations which will take place at 7 pm on Friday 26th April in the Brockagh Resource Centre. The talk will highlight the results of a new project which finally publishes Henry’s excavations and will also offer very brief news of the ongoing GHF/UCD excavations at Glendalough. In addition, it is planned to ask for help in identifying members of the local workforce who staffed her excavations and who appear in many of the photographs of the site. Glendalough Car Boot Sales 2019        

Our next car boot day will be on Sun, 7th of April, open from 10am to 4pm. Bargains on practically anything from household items to garden additions, and even vintage or antique treasures. Vans must be booked in. Please pre-book indoor spaces early. Contact the Brockagh Centre on 0404-45600 or email laraghit@eircom.netif you wish to book an indoor space or if you prefer to sell outside just show up at 8am on the morning.

Climate Change Talk

On April 11th, Laragh Tidy Towns will host a workshop on how to reduce waste and improve recycling in the home. The talk will take place in the Brockagh Resource Centre, starting at 7.30pm. Traditional Basket Weaving Workshops

Learn to make a traditional round basket using willow. Suitable for both beginners and improvers. The next workshop takes place on and 20th of April in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh from 9am to 5pm. Go For Life                                                                                 

The group meet most Tuesdays, so if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, bowls, music come along on at 11am, they welcome any newcomer. The group meet for lunch once a month at various venues. For further information, call Denise at the Brockagh Centre on (0404) 45600 or drop in.

Happy Days

Tuesdays mornings 10.30 -12pm at the Brockagh Centre, parents, babies and toddlers get together, have lots of fun weeks with art & crafts and make new friends. It is also a great way to meet and socialize with parents, especially if you are new to the area. Contact us at 0404-45600 at the centre for more information.

Teens and adults will enjoy Taekwon-Do, a Korean art of self-defence. Benefits include improving confidence, respect, discipline, awareness, concentration, channeling aggression, balance, coordination, speed, reactions, fitness and health.
