Laragh Glendalough Notes Week beg 2nd Sept 2019

 

Community Education Programme

The Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB) will be running a community education programme in the Brockagh Resource Centre over a four-week period starting on Tuesday, 10th September. Sessions will take place from 7.30 to 9.30 pm. The programme is open to anyone in the community who is interested in learning how to run effective meetings. Places are limited. Tidy Towns

Area Clean-up

Our next clean-up evening will be on Tuesday 3rd September. We meet outside Lynhams at 7 pm. We would like to thank all those who gave up their time this summer to keep our village clean and maintained. Hopefully our score in the Tidy Towns competition will reflect our efforts.

NeighbourWood

The association is developing a Mindfulness Walk in Ballard wood under the NeighbourWood scheme. The location is excellent; it is close to Laragh village and will have wheelchair access. Our community and its many visitors will be able to avail of this new facility once it is complete.

Garden Competition

The judging in the garden competition is ongoing. Country Life, Ashford is kindly sponsoring the prizes this year. Winners will be announced in the near future.

Happy Days

Tuesdays mornings 10.30 -12pm at the Brockagh Centre, parents, babies and toddlers get together, have lots of fun weeks with art & crafts and make new friends. It is also a great way to meet and socialize with parents, especially if you are new to the area. Contact us at 0404-45600 at the centre for more information. The group are back on the 17th of Sept with new parents and toddlers always welcome.

Tae kwon-Do for Youths and Adults

Teens and adults will enjoy Taekwon-Do, a Korean art of self-defence. Benefits include improving confidence, respect, discipline, awareness, concentration, channeling aggression, balance, coordination, speed, reactions, fitness and health. Call Master Kenneth Wheatley on 087-2547347 for further information. Classes are on Tuesdays at 7.45-8.45pm (Seniors & Teens) in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh.

Mobile Library

The mobile library visits Lynhams car park every second Thursday from 12.15 noon to 12.50 pm. The next visit will take place on 12th & 26th

Active Retirement Group

The group meet most Tuesdays, so if you fancy a chat, a cuppa and some light exercise, bowls, music come along on at 11am, they welcome any newcomer. The group meet for lunch once a month at various venues. For further information, call Denise at the Brockagh Centre on (0404) 45600 or drop in. The group are back after the Summer break on 17th of September.

The Hardy Annuals Walk

 Annick Garnier Exhibition

We are delighted to be hosting French artist Garnier Annick at the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh on Sunday 8th of Sept in the Willow Room. Open from 9am to 4pm. Annick trained in Ecles de Beaux Arts Caen and  has been exhibiting in France since 1997 receiving various prestigious awards in Caen and Normandy .

Part-time Maintenance Person

St. Kevin’s Parish is seeking someone to work on a Community Employment scheme (applicants must be in receipt of a qualifying social welfare payment). Duties will include grass cutting and general maintenance of the church and parochial house grounds. For further information, please phone Marie in the parish office on 0404-45777.

Footfalls Walking Festival Glendalough

Footfalls Walking Festival will be based in the Brockagh Resource Centre from Fri 25th to Mon 28th with many of the walks taking us through Wicklow Mountains National Park. All walks are led by experienced walking leaders who will enhance your day with information on local history flora and fauna.The weekend offers a selection of walking choices such as Lugnaquilla (925 m), a night walk, moderate to easy walks throughout the weekend. Please note: Walks may be changed on the day depending on weather conditions or the fitness level of the group at the leader’s discretion. Glendalough Country Market & Car Boot Sales       

Recycle and Re-use locally. Encouraging local and non-local producers of plants, vegetables, crafts etc. Our next event will be on Sun, 8th of Sept(2nd Sun of the month), open from 10am to 4pm. Bargains on practically anything from household items to garden additions, and even vintage or antique treasures. We are also delighted to be hosting talented French artist Garnier Annick in the Willow Room. Vans must be booked in. Please pre-book indoor spaces early. Co Wicklow PPN Training Fair 2019
​The Training Fair held  on Saturday 21st Sept in The Brockagh Centre, Laragh. Morning workshops include Funding your Group,Getting the most out of social media, Charitable Status and the Governance Code, Running Effective Meetings, Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Community. Afternoon Workshops include GDPr, Good Governance (where to start), spotlight on PPN member group, Health and Safety for your Group, Attracting Volunteers. Morning Yoga with Louise

Louise’s yoga class will be held every Thursday from 10 to 11.15 am in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh.. This is a gently-paced class where students learn how to align, open and strengthen the body gradually while stabilizing the platforms of the feet and ankles, hips and pelvis and shoulder girdle. The class begins with general and targeted warm-up sequences followed by postures (Asanas) and Vinyasa (breath-connected) sequences before final relaxation in Savasana. Chair Yoga

Our very popular Chair Yoga class will take place on Thursdays from 11.30 am to 12.45 pm in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh.. Chair Yoga is suitable for almost everyone and helps students find balance and calm in everyday life. The class takes students through centering and breath-work, followed by postures that let the joints move through their range of movement whilst seated or through use of the chair whilst standing.
