Due to the restrictions around Covid-19 the annual Stations of the Cross will not take place in Glendalough Valley on 10th April.

Closure of Playground and Centre

The clothes bank is being emptied when it is full.
Scrap Metal Collection
Although we are unable to hold the scrap metal day on the last weekend in March, we will advertise a new date as soon as we can commit. In the meantime, please continue to gather your metal for this fundraiser in aid of the Centre.
Laragh and Glendalough Tidy Towns
National Tree Week
As part of National Tree Week, John, Noel and Finian planted twenty native trees. Fifteen alder, birch and oak were planted on the Pattern Bank in Glendalough and the remainder were planted in the biodiversity area beside the community garden.
Area Clean-up
We hope to be out on a litter-pick on the first Saturday in April. The PURE truck is operating as usual and will collect all the litter. Remember to keep a distance of at least 2 metres from others. The current advice (as of 25th March) is that gatherings outside should be of no more than four people. For these reasons, we will not put a time on it, just try and get out when it suits you. However, please keep up with the news and obey any further restrictions that may be put in place.
Award for Tidy Main Street
We received €500 from Wicklow Co. Co. recently in recognition of our efforts in keeping the Main Street in the village tidy. Well done to all.
St. Kevin’s Parish
Cancelled Masses
The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) has decided that Masses on Saturday evening and Sunday mornings will be cancelled. This is to comply with the measures to delay the spread of the coronavirus which were announced by the government on 12th March and which have since been extended to 19th April. These measures will also affect the Easter Ceremonies. Weekday Masses continue as normal. The situation will be kept under review by the PPC.
Blessing of Graves
In the event that restrictions are lifted, Glendalough cemetery will be blessed on Saturday May 16th at 8 pm while Brockagh cemetery will be blessed on Saturday May 23rd after 7 pm Mass.
Laragh GFC
Offer of Assistance during Covid-19 Emergency
Laragh GFC would like to help anyone in our community (especially the elderly, vulnerable or self-isolating) who might need help in any way during the current unprecedented emergency. Our players and members are available to collect from the shop and drop it to your doorstep with minimal contact. We are also willing to help with anything else that is required. Community Energy Survey
The COVID-19 emergency has superseded the other two major global emergencies for the moment but the issues around climate change and the loss of biodiversity will still be with us long after it has gone. With the climate emergency in mind, the Laragh/Glendalough Sustainable Energy Community, in consultation with the 3 Counties Energy Agency (3CEA), is undertaking a survey of local energy use. The survey will gather information about our domestic and non-domestic buildings, our modes of transport, etc. and will cover the following townlands/areas (please pass on the word to those who may not see this newsletter).
